Why Do People Buy And Wear Those Things? Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Creme…The Peptide Story.

I absolutely love this product, especially in the frigid northern winters! My skin is on the dryer side and needs more help when the temperature plummets. On top of that, add the dry heat, the lack of moisture, and winter can wreak havoc with one’s skin. Enter Peter Thomas Roth’s Mega-Rich Anti-Aging Cellular Creme. Pure hydration for the face filled with peptides, vitamins and botanicals that leave my face radiant, glowing and moisturized immediately and for hours.

Not that peptides have necessarily been proven to work conclusively yet. Some women swear by products that contain them. I’ve been using products with peptides for almost two years now. Have they lessened my wrinkles? My concerns have been around my eyes. And my answer is yes. I’ve seen an improvement. Some of the fine lines have actually disappeared. Not all. That would be a miracle. There has been a lessening of the deepening of my crow’s feet. The skin appears to be plumped by the creams. Enough to say that I’ll continue to use skin products that contain peptides.  The other added benefit that I’ve seen is what I call the cragginess in my neck area has all but disappeared. I now like my jaw line. Maybe it never was that bad. Perhaps I’m just that critical of myself, but my neck area looks good to me now. So I’ve decided to stick with the peptides. And let me explain why.

Peptides have various effects on the human body. They work in different ways to improve it. Not only for our skin, but also work for hormones, neurotransmitters and natural pain relievers.  Different pain relievers work differently. This would make sense. So what are the most important ones that we should be looking for in the skin care products we purchase so we are getting the most for our hard-earned dollars?

There are five to remember. The first-Acetyl-Hexapeptide-3 works to relax certain facial muscles. This is similiar to botox injections, but better. Why better? Acetyl-Hexapeptide-3 can be used anywhere on the face, where botox injections cannot. It’s also a lot cheaper and safer than botox injections. Acetyl-Hexapeptide-3 has been shown to work in as little as 30 days to show a 30% reduction in wrinkle size. This peptide works on are mechanical line wrinkles and stess-related wrinkles and is also known as Argireline as its trade name. It works well with other resurfacing and moisturizing products.

The second-Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3  stimulates the deeper, matrix layers of the skin. It increases collagen production and also, hyaluronic acid synthesis in the skin. What does this all mean? Doctors have found that hyaluronic acid helps to moisturize, prevents premature aging and prevent scarring. In studies, published results found that using Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3 gave three results: 1.) increased overall collagen synthesis by up to 117%; 2.) increased collagen IV synthesis by up to 327%; and 3.) increase hyaluronic acid synthesis by up to 267%.  Participants in studies saw a difference in as little as two weeks. Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3 also goes by the trade name Matrixyl.

The third-Palmitoyl Oligopeptide-is very similar to Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3. It stimulates the synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid but it also has a mild UV protection effect. That is not to say you can go without wearing sunblock. You still must protect your face with a good UVA/UVB protection block to prevent future aging.

The fourth-Copper Peptides-are used by doctors to heal skin after cosmetic surgery procedures, chemical resurfacing and severe effects of Retin-A. A small study suggests that Copper Peptides stimulate collagen production. The thought is still out on whether Copper Peptides are beneficial dating back from the 1970’s until the present.

The fifth-Palmitoyl Tripeptide-3 mimics the body’s own mechanism to produce collagen and reduce surface lines and wrinkles.

There are other peptides on the market listed in skin care preparations. Caution should always be exercised when purchasing products. Some are legitimate, some are hype, and some are still in the study phase.

Mega-Rich appears greasy in the jar. It’s shiny. It’s consistency is smooth and very easy to spread. A little goes a long way. 1.7 oz at $85.00 US is inexpensive when I think of how long the jar lasts me. Although it seems very shiny in the jar, it doesn’t go on my face in a greasy consistency at all. You only need a little because the creme spreads really well. The shine isn’t there when applied but a rich radiance  appears with a rosy glow. My skin feels instantly moisturized and ready to take on the winter weather and dry indoor humidity.

I use Mega-Rich on my face, neck, décolletage and upper and lower eye areas. My skin feels firmer and I’ve also seen a lessening in my fine lines. It’s probably plumping them and keeping new ones at bay, and that’s ok with me. It’s working. That’s what matters. I don’t use it alone, starting first with a cleansed face, followed by a target serum, then this moisturizer. When you use products appropriately, you’ll find the most benefits.

I like using a product that has natural ingredients in it, especially if they’ve been proven to work. Mega-Rich has Avocado Oil which has natural moisturizing factors and antioxidant properties; Vitamin E, A and C are all antioxidants; Vitamin B5 is an anti-inflammatory; Echinacea moisturizes and conditions; Grape Seed Extract diminishes free radical damage and has antioxidant properties; and Green and White teas which have the highest concentrations of all the teas for antioxidant properties. There are also a variety of peptides to round out the mix.

Because the container is so large and the mouth is wide which I consider unsanitary, I use a scoop to put a smaller amount into a tiny container that I’ll use with my fingers. The large jar I keep in the fridge. I’m on my third jar of this classic creme and wouldn’t be without it.

Cruelty-free, also.
